چکیده

Chronic Lateral Collateral Injuries Lateral collateral ligament (LCL), popliteus tendon and popliteo-fibular ligament (PFL) are the main static stabilizers on the lateral side of the knee and resist abnormal varus and external rotation. Isolated injuries of the lateral stabilizing structures are rare and most of the injuries are associated with damage to the ACL or PCL. Unrecognized posterolateral injury also places abnormal loads on ACL or PCL grafts and might lead to early failure of the reconstruction. Management of chronic lateral injuries starts with a thorough clinical examination of the knee ligaments with special emphasis on varus stress test, dial test and postero-lateral drawer test in varying degrees of knee flexion, and varus-hyperextension thrust during walking. Stress X-rays are helpful to quantify the amount of laxity. Weight-bearing full length radiographs are mandatory since varus extremity alignment leads to abnormal loads on the lateral reconstruction and should be corrected before ligament surgery is attempted. It is important to distinguish between varus alignment due to lateral laxity and tibial metaphyseal varus, since only the latter needs corrective osteotomy.

Posterolateral Corner of the Knee:Current Concepts

Injuries to the posterolateral corner (PLC) comprise a significant portion of knee ligament injuries. A high index of suspicion is necessary when evaluating the injured knee to detect these sometimes occult injuries. Moreover, a thorough physical examination and a comprehensive review of radiographic studies are necessary to identify these injuries. In this sense, stress radiographs can ...

Diagnosis and treatment of posterolateral knee injuries.

Posterolateral knee injuries can be very debilitating. It is important to understand the complex anatomy and pertinent diagnostic tests to properly treat posterolateral knee injuries. The fibular collateral ligament, popliteus tendon, and the popliteofibular ligament are the main static stabilizers against abnormal varus and posterolateral translational moments. Important radiographic imaging s...

Management of medial-sided knee injuries.

Medial collateral ligament injuries are common and are often associated with concomitant ligamentous, meniscus, and cartilage injuries. Orthopedic surgeons should be familiar with the outcomes of nonoperative and operative treatment of isolated and combined grade I, II, and III injuries. Special attention should be paid to identifying involvement of the posterior oblique ligament and capsule; l...

Study of Coincidence of Hoffa’s Fat Pad Associated Injuries in Knee Traumas in Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Background and Objective: Hoffa’s fat pad injuries are often caused by acute direct and indirect trauma and chronic recurrent micro-trauma, and its disorders are associated with other traumas and injuries that have been less paid attention to in radiological studies. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate the injuries associated with Hoffa’s fat pad injury in knee trauma using the diag...
